BOW BIDDY ENJOYED THE GLORIOUS FOURTH B 1DDY was born on the "lther solde," as she told everybody that was curious enough to ask her. Though foreign by birth. In feelings nud actions she was thoroughly American. She had spent one Fourth of July lu this country and hud observed with intense interest the enthusiasm all boys and girls showed In tlie day. At the same time she re solved that when the Fourth next came around her celebration would bu as lively as anybody's. And so it turned out. Now, it might be said of Biddy that there had been u serious double mis take in her life. Iustead of an Irish girl she should have been a boy aud au American. But American she was bouud to become, anyway, and no boy living could have entered more heartily into the celebration than this same lllddy O'ilare, in her straw hut with a wide drooping brim and her green frock. There was Just one peculiar tiling lu Riildy's makeup, and that, to call It by its gentlest name, was a tendency to prevaricate. Indeed, prevaricate will hardly do. for she often made up whole stories without even a founda tion of truth. 11 wus Biddy's weak ness, Her parents fondly hoped that she would outgrow it she was only eight but, us tiling! were now, al most all she said had to be carefully considered as coming from Biddy. In Ihe town where Biddy lived there was a public celebration, and this young Irish-American made her plans to attend. She did not think it worth while to ask permission. When the afternoon came she found it easy enough to get herself lost In the crowd and to follow the rest of the patriotic citizens out to the fair grounds. On Sunday morning, June 21, at 6 o'clock, James J. Hughes, a nephew of Mrs. W. F. Jewett, and Mildred Nottage, of Scottsburg, were united in the bonds of matrimony In the Catholic Church by the Rev. Mc Devitt, of North Bend. The best man was Joseph D. Hughes, a cousin of the groom, and Laura Nottuge was the bridesmaid, a sister of the bride. The following were present at the ceremony: Mrs. W. F. Jewett, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Jewett, Mrs. Peter son, an aunt of the bride, Mrs. Per kins and Clifford Perkins. After the ceremony the couple partook of au excellent breakfast given by Mrs. Jewett. Great credit Is due Mrs. Wil son Jewett for the fine dlnuer given to the couple and friends.
