The lou la more than 11.OOU.000. Al' ready more than 1000 residences and 12 factories have .been destroyed. Dynamite Is being used to check the flames. At 5 o'clock this afternoon the fire was In elKbt blocks of Salem business district. Seventy-five more houses have been destroyed in Boutli Salem, while 45 fire-fighters bad leen overcome with smoke. Fifty others were taken to 'the hospitals The water pressure Is' low, and wo men are running about the streets as If demented. At .6:30 me dusi ness section of the town was In great danger. French Mrs. Johansen came to this city with her brother 33 years ago and loft some time later for California. She notes little resemblance of the pres ent city to her former home. A washout of considerable track on the Southern Pacific line near Copley, Cnl., yesterday as a result of the torrential rains, has caused a delay of several hours of all thru traffic. Train No. 14, due In Hose burg at 2 o'clock this afternoon, was but a stub-train from Ashland. Ilegu lar No. 14 and this morning's Shasta Limited will pass through here about 10 o clock this evening. The Gladstone family, Beven in number, who are playing at the Ma Jostle theater In this city, are said to be among the beBt attractions of the kind now touring the Pacific Coast. They just finished engage ments at Ashland, Grants Pass and Medford, where they plnyed to ca pacity houBCB. At Ashland they played five engagements, with more than 1000 people at each porform auce. The Majestic is fortunate In securing this excellent attraction The family Includes acrobats, dancers and comedians. Although Roscburg will have no official colebrntlon on the Fourth of July, an opportunity will be afforded those who wish to celebrate the day In spite of that fact, by a big picnic that Is being nrranged by the Parent teachers' Association In WoHt Kobo bui'g.
