Smith at the hands of an angry populace .was unlawful and a blot on the coin , munlty in which It occurred. We do not condemn those who were the perpetrators of the deportation and ill UBage of Hev. Smith, because we are not informed as to their grlev-j ance. Yet we do say that if they had a just cause they had recourse to . our law to have aided them in right ing what may be magnified wrong. Rev. Smith has at different times preached in Olivet Church in this city. And we are of those who know him. Also we have met his esti mable wile and their accomplished daughter. band we accord them all our kindly sympathy. We have no plan to condone wrong on either side. Yet each side had the supre macy of the grandest law system In the world by winch to right or arbi trate their differences. As it Is, we are very pleased to commend" Sheriff Smith, of Grants Pass, for his prompt action In regard to this really sad affair, and we hope that calm after reflecllon will prevail and all of the good people and we esteem them all good of Wolf Creek will forgive and forget, and that He who taught us to '"bless them who persecute you" will hold "His banner of love over our near-by neighbors, and all will be well. Charles Flint, who was formerly a resident of this city, met with a fearful accident at Dunsniiiir, Cal., on Wednesday of last week. Ills mo tor car was struck by a light engine at Shasta Retreat, one-half mile from Mr. Flint's home station. He was it brown a distance or 70 feet, and was iterrlbly Injured, probably crippled for life. He was taken to the S. P. HoBpital. at San Francisco, whither Ii is wife accompanied him. In a pri vate message from -Mrs. Flint re ceived this morning we are Informed that Mr. Flint Is resting easily, and hope for his life is good. .Mr. Flint has been In the employ of the S. P. Co. for ten years, and has used a motor car for nearly all that time. . This is his first serious accident. Many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Flint In this city extend them cordial sym pathy. Mr. and Mrs. Champ Johns were city visitors yesterday from their home near Booth. They Informed ns that Galesville, Anchor and llooth are to celebrate the 4th of July at the Lehman falls, above Booth, and all of upper Cow Creek will join them As they are to have a royal good time, we certainly would like jto he with them if we were not al ready on the general committee To make the Fourth at Glendale "the best ever." Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Hanks, and daughter -of Canyonvllle, were the guests of their parents in this city on Sunday. Miss Mabel Eberle, one of our popular music teachers, went over to Grants Pass last week to consult an oculist and to be fitted with glasses. She returned home on Sunday. Mrs. I.ucretla Enyart and her niece. Miss Irene Plotner, of Med ford, were week end visitors In this cltv. Also they went out to Fortune Creek to visit the mother and grnnd- mother oi the ladies, Mrs. M. Elllft. and the sister of the former, Mrs. Florence l)ewey. Miss Plotner has just closed a very successful term of school at Medl'ord and Is engaged to teach for the coming year. Mrs. Enyart has evidently found the famous fountain of youth, and her presence In this city Is welcome and so cheering, we are always giaa to see her come. Also to bring with her the two charming girls who are her house guests. Charles Hlaticnnrii, a prominent business men of Moscow, Idaho, was a euest for a week at the Richardson homo in this city. C. Vangllder and their daughters, Miss Nita and little Beulah, and their son, Teddy, left last Sunday for an extended Eastern fip. They will spend July Fourth at St. Paul, Minn.. whr they will visit Mr. Vaugllder's relatives at his old home that he left lf years ago. They are going by the Southern route, and will' return by the Great Northern. While we will all miss them at home, We are pleased that they are enjoying such a fine vaca tlontlon.
