The Orogon ' apple box will become the standard apple box for the entire United States, If Congress can find time to pass the Itaker bill, which wus favorably reported recently to the Houhg by the committee on coin ace, weights und measures. "The bill," says the committee re port, "will eHtablish for the producer a broader and more stable murket; It will give the distributor confidence In the integrity of tho box and the grade, and It will assure the con sunier of both the qunlity and quan' tlty of the food which he buys. This measure has received practically tho unanimous approval of all branches of the apple trade which use the box instead of tho barrel, and repreaon tatlves of fruit growers, fruit Job bers, horticultural societies, boards of trade, Oranges, commission mer chants, apple shippers and , exporters from all parts of the llnltod States, with scarcely a dlBSoutlng voice, urge its imssago. It establishes a standard box of the same dimensions in gen eral and customary use throughout the United States where the apple box is used, which covers the west ern half of tho country." The bill provides for a box 1014 by 11 by 18 Inches, Inside meas urements, containing 2173 cubic Inches. Bmallor boxes shall ho plain ly marked "Bhort box," or with the actual capacity of the box. CHILDREN'S DAT EXERCISES HELD AT THE METHODIST CHTRCH, BOl'TH, BtXDAY. Sunday, June 21, was a very Inter esting day at the M. E. Church, South. After the session ot the Sun day Bchool the Children's bay pro gram waB rendered. Promptly at 11, the children of the Bchool formed In line outside tho church singing a proceBsionul hymn as they entered, appropriate to the thought of tho day. After this the congregation was led In prayer by the pastor. The pri mary cIubs then sung a short welcome and gave their regular class prayer. The superintendent, W. L. Cobb, then announced the theme of the pro gram as "lllble Hoys and Girls." The program consisted of recitations, Holon, songs, etc. One feature of the service was two special numbers by tho choir under the direction of Prof. II. J. Htone, which greatly added to tho Interest of the Bervlce. The children were all at their best, and their parts wero exceptionally well rendered. The service was pro nounced a great succesB by the largo congregation which filled tho house to Its capacity. The church waa beau tifully decorated for the occnHlon with a profusion of flowers. At the evening sorvlce Hon. D. I.. Hddy preached nt this church, using as hla thorae, "lirokeu Cisterns. Air. Eddy spoke forcefully and powerful ly of the Idolntry of the people of the time of Jeremiah, and Bhowcd how those conditions, and tho mes sage of the prophet, applied to our present day life. It was a strong, masterful presentation of the truth, and tho large audience which almost filled the houso listened with rapt attention, and really regretted that the Bpenkor closed the discourse when he did.
