After reaching the interior of the
store the prowlers apparently went
direct to the cash register 111 which
was deposited less than 14. . This
money was taken, with the exception
of a couple of small coins which were
wrapped in paper and overlooked.
Two sales, one of which stood near
tho front of the store and in plain
view of pedestrians, were also ran
sacked. Neither of these safes were
locked and were searched without
difficulty. Several packages of to
bacco and a number of cigars were
taken by the burglars. In their haste
to escape the men overlooked about
$25 In cash which was kept in a desk
in the office of the establishment.
This money was the property of the
Hoseburg Stamp Company,, of which
Miss Flossie Kidd is acting secretary.

ent. This theory is sbnred by the
local officers, who claim the men
were apparently familiar with the
store and the habits of the proprie
tors. This makes the fifth time that
burglars have entered the store of
Mrs. A. C. Kidd & Son since they
engaged in business in this city. On
a previous occasion a safe was dyna
mited and something over $200 was
secured. The burglar was later ap
prehended, however, and most of the
money was recovered.

The blasting which has been In
progress In North Roseburg the past
week In connection with the grading
of WlncheBter street, has broken a
number of windows In thnt neighbor
hood as the result of flying pebbles,
but Sunday afternoon a more serious
accident nearly occurred when an
extra heavy blast severed one of the
heavily volled electric wires of the
light company and It thmi;hed about
on the ground In a dangerous fash
ion near a number of workmen inttl
the power was turned off and the
damage repaired. The big blast had
about 12 sticks of dynamite, and
when the explosion occurred the
cbaln was broken which bound the
bundle of railroad ties, placed overt
'the charge to prevent the throwing
of rocks and earth, and one of the,
.pieces struck the wire and the chain I
carried about tiO.000 volts. The
power was turned oft about 5 o'clock
for half an hour.
