A baby boy was born to Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Kichnrds, cr Gallop, New
Morlco, ' March 3. Mr. and Mrs.
Richards formerly resided here.
Mrs. J. V. Elrod departed .Mon
day for HosebuiK. Mr. Elrod is pre
paring to follow In a short, time, iis
they are going to niovo from here to
their- new home near Koselmrg.
Leonnrd, the four year old son of
Mr. and .Mrs. J. V. Hjork, died Tues
day of tubercular meningitis. The
funeral services were held in the
Presbyterian Church, Kev. J. W.
Knott, formerly pastor here, con
ducting the services.
Rev. .1. V. Knott, formerly pastor
of the Presbyterian Church at this
place, will preach at the Presbyterian
Church next Sunday morning at 11
o'clock. As Mr. Knott is leaving tor
Ashland, Ibis will be his last time to
preach to the people of this place.
Dr. 0. II. liailey, of Hosehure,
Countv Kruit Inspector, was in Yon
calla Tuesday night of this week and
favored the people of our community
with a most instructive and inspiring
lecture on the matter of Intensive
farming, how to Increase I ho receipts
from our orchards and also how to
get together in the handling of the
same. This is a subject that Is most
essentlnl to the fruit growers of our
community. Wo need to realize more
and more the rare possibilities af
forded us"in this most beautiful and
fertllo valley.
Mr. Anderson, a paving man of
Grants Pass, was here on business
Monday. Mr. Anderson has had 'con
siderable experience in handling the
different kinds of pavement and is
qualified to make close estimates as
to the cost of installing street pave
ment. While here Mr. Anderson
gave out the statementt hat after
suitable grades were established, he
would furnish all material for paving
and would complete the work at a
cost not to exceed $4.75 per lineal
foot to the center of the street,
which would make the cost of paving
a ."u Toot frontage $2:i7.i0, being
about 4 0 per cent less than any one
has heretfore contended the work

Mrs. Lou Scott and her two young
est children, of Kansas City, Mo.,

She was a former Myrtle Creek girl,
and was enroute to Grants Pass to
visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.

(eo. E. Cole is recovering from
the effects of a painful accident which
he received recently at his Hed Moun
tain ranch. While applying the brake
to a wagon which he was driving
down an Incline, the brake staff
broke and let him fall under the ve
hicle, a bind wheel of which passed
over his body, causing Injuries which
kept him confined to his bed for sev
eral days. 1 !
Ira Miles, plumber for the Heard
Hardware Co., is busily engaged in
building a 12.000 gallon, galvanized
Iron oil tank for the Johns llros., for
their Missouri Bottom fruit ranch.
These gentlemen have ordered two
car loads of fuel oil, and will store
it in the tank as soon as it is com
pleted, to use for smudging purposes.

Dr. Adams reports the arrival of
twin boys at the homo of Mr. and

boys each weighed six pounds.
The new shute at the Lystul mill
is nearing completion and logging
will begin next week and tho mill
will also start up then for the sum
mer's run.
The school board Is having the lots
bought last year east of the school
houso cleared and will have a good
diamond made for the boys. The
four lots which have been used for
baseball are being fenced and they
will he used for school gardens.

grounds of the Clarke Hotel. The
walks In Trout have been grnded and
squared up and graveled, some sod
ding dono and the entire grounds
