message from Klkton this morning
announces that the special election
held yesterday on the iiuistiou of
creatiiig the I'ort of l'mpiiua carried
by a majority of Mi voles out of an
unlearned grand tolul of voles 111 the
three precincts involved. Klkton and
Scottsburg precincts returned heavy
majorities against the proposition,'
but (iardiner. when' I he project had

The total vote cast in tlardiner
precinct was not obtainable at Klk
ton this morning. Out of ltd voles

them favored the port. The citizens
of Scottsburg were even more pro
nounced in tiieir opposition. There

Klkton and all but 17 of them said
"no."

held on tills question. The first one
involved eight precincts and resulted
in the proposition being defeated.

gon signed a petition to President
Wilson, asking hint that the battle
ship bearing the name of the state be
leader of the parade through the
Panama Canal when formally opened.
The document is in the hands of
the executive today. President Wil
son was very much interested in the.
petition, and gave some time to its
perusal and an examination of the
names of the youngsters.
