The Light and Power Council of the Cali fornia Affiliated Unions, employed in various branches of gas and electrical workers, culled a strike against the Pacific Gas & Electric Company to day. Various estimates of the num ber of men affected run from one to three thousand. About 800 are In volved in Sah Francisco. The strike will be state-wide. It was called be cause of failure to reach an agree ment Tor a wage Increase and one day In each week for rest. The Increase asked amounts to practically 2ii cents a day for every man employed. He died at Mrs. Gay Hoffman's hospital. In this city. Tuesday night. May e, at me age of about 72. He was a native of Michigan and emigrated to Oregon with his parents in 1852. Mr. Rose followed various occupa tions, chiefly mining and fishing. He fished In and near Roseburg for many years and did considerable mining on Coffee Creek, near Perdue, as well as In California and other Western states. Until recently he lived at Olalla for a short period. The funeral will be held at Urockway Thursday, interment taking place be Blde the grave of his father, the late William Hose. Surviving the deceased are wife, who lives ai Fort Jones, several sons and leaves a wife. Ashland (Or.) Atwood, who has been visiting for several days past at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leslie Martin, at Garden Valley, near Wil bur, escaped arrest at the hands of Sheriff Qulne Tuesday night by leav ing for Portland that afternoon on the local train No. 20. Qulne drove over to Garden Valley in an auto to place Atwood under arrest, as re quested by the Portland authorities, but was Informed on his arrival that his quarry had gone bnck to that city on the afternoon train of Tuesday.
