200 members of the Odd Fellows and
about 60 members ot the Order of
Hebekahs observed the 94th anni
versary of the Odd Fellows' Order at
the First Methodist Church Sunday
night. Dr. Benjamin Young, pastor
of the church, who Is an Odd Fellow,
delivered a sermon on "Odd Fellows
and Some Other Fellows." He traced
the growth of the order In the United
States from Its Inception In Ualti-
i more In 1819. The Order of He
bekahs was organised In 1851.
"Five years ago," said the minis
ter, "there were 8,000,000 members
ot fraternal orders In the United
States. One hundred years ago only
1 per cent of the population were
members of such orders. Now the
memherHhlp comprises 10 per cent.
The Odd Fellows tuke second place
to no fraternal order. In 1906 there
were 23,000 subordinate lodges In
the world. The relief fund since
1830 has been $160,000,000. The
annual relief fund eight years ago
was $1,700,000. Five years ago It
was $a,UOO,000.
"Friendship, love and truth are
the golden links In the bonds of this
holy fraternity. May we exemplify
these things In life, and may we go
out to be fellows moved upon by the
spirit of love to bring down that
which Is wholesome and true and
good to men everywhere about us
who need the Inspiration of our mes
sage and of our work. This Is the
meaxago and the ministry of every
Odd Fellow, and It ought to be the
message of every other fellow."
