gressman Fitzgerald conferred with
President Wilson at the White House,
regarding the special session of Con
gress and the Democratic legislative
program. Later the President met
with his Cabinet.
Prediction that the new Congress
will have sufficient members who
-favor woman suffrage to make pos
sible the passage of an equal suffrage
amendment at Its first regular ses
sion was made by Senator Miles
Poindexter of Washington.
"The recent widespread change In
sentiment and the conversion of In
dividual members of both houses to
equal miff rage," said Senator Poin
dexter today, "makes It altogether
poHslbte that the new committee on
this question will report favorably.
Senator Poindexter anticipates a
full hearing of the matter before the
Senate suffrage committee.
The House ways and means com
mittee met today to outline Its pro
gram for revision of the tariff. It
considered eight tentative bills, ana
probably will fix a dHj&. for a "tariff
caucus of House Democrats before
April 1.
Representative Palmer, of Penn
sylvania, outlined President Wilson's
ideas regarding tariff revision. Os
car I'nderwood, of Alabama, chair
man of the committee, stated that In
accordance with the President's dec!
slou, there would be no omnibus
tariff bill. Instead, 16 hilts, 14
dealing with separate schedules, one
with the free list and another on
administrative machinery, wlllbe presented.
