James Batty was attending to busi ness matters In Roseburg Wednes day. John Wetxel, formerly a resident of this city, but now of Eugene, spent Thursday here on business. Miss Emma Gross, of Oakland, Bpent Friday visiting with her sister. Miss Myrtle, who is attending school here. Mrs. Walter WaniBley, of Davls vllle, Cal., is visiting here among her relatives and many friends. Deputy Sheriff Chas. Dougherty spent last Wednesday at the county sent on business matters. The entertainment given by the high school last Friday in the opera house was well attended and well ap preciated by those present. Mrs. L. C. H. Mahn, of Roseburg, Is spending a few dayB visitina here wun inenas ana relatives. John Burt, formerly a resident of tnis place, but now of Portland, spent Friday In the city. He is now a traveling salesman for the John Deere Plow Implement Co. Miss Huth Thiol returned tn her home Thursday from Portland, after spending the past month visiting with her sister, Mrs. J. A. Duffy. Mrs. Claude Plaster, of Cottage Grove, spent Saturday and Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Barton Helll well. Mrs. Henry Burt returned to her home Saturday from Portland, where Bho had been spending some time on account. of her poor health. We are glad to say that she, has greatly Im proved. Last Sunday morning a barn be longing to M. L. Hungary, west of town, was burned to tho ground. The cause of the fire is unknown. No in surance.
