Or., March 9.-VThe Mlnney Company yesterday accepted 'and filed Its bond of $1000 of the franchise granted to them for an ; electric Interurban car line between Medford and Ashland at a special election held here February 21. Survey to Coast. PORTLAND. March 8. The pro jected railroad from Medford, Or., to Crescent City, on the coast of Northern California, appears now quite certain. The survey has been completed and it Is understood that much of the right of way baa beeu procured. The road will furnish an outlet for about 1,000,000 tons of high grade copper ore and about 1r 000,000,000 feet of flue timber. M. E. Reed, of the firm of Reed & Chencry, engineers of this city, re turned from Medford yesterday, after having completed the survey of w hich he has been In charge. It la suld the engineers In making the survey found a pass over the Siskiyou mountains that offers less obstacles than any yet surveyed through that rugged country, the route of the proposed line showing a maximum grade of 2 per cent or about 100 feet to the mile. This pass is described as being betweeu the Smith and Illinois rivers. The great est obstruction, the crest of the di vide, it is said, can be surmounted by a 2000-foot tunnel. The survey runs through Jackson, Josephine and Del Norte counties, and will lap the rich Illinois River, Smith River and Applegate valleys. It Is asserted that there will be an abundance of tonnage offered the moment the lino Is completed, the timber alone being sufficient to sup port the line for years If developed. Hllieary, aged 45, until recently merchant of Brownsville, occurred Tuesday near McMlnnvllle, Or., where ha had moved. During the residence of Mr. Hll ieary here ha was Identified with the, commercial interests of the communi ty and held several public positions, among which was the office of coun cilman for two years and president of the Commercial Club for one year. 1 He belonged to both the Masonic and Knight of Pythias lodges of Browns ville, both of which orders sent rep resentatives to attend the funeral at McMlnnvllle. Deceased was, prior to coming to Brownsville, a locomotive engineer on the Southern Paclflo line at Roseburg, and was later In spector of locomotives for that com pany. He was born near Turner, Marlon County, Or. A widow and two children survive him.
