express messenger, whose car on the
Sunset Western train of the Santa
Ke Railroad waa robbed of $-0,ll.
in gold near hero last week, broke
down today nnd confessed be had
robbed the safe with tho aid of his
10 year old brother, Melvin.
The money, which bad been hidden
by the boys In a brickyard at Kern
Junction, was recovered, with tho ex
ception of $:!00, which was found In
Melvlu'8 room. Both brothers are iu
jail.
Injury Successfully Simulated.
After telling a storv of au attack
by two robbers who had laid him un
conscious with n blow on the head,
the young messenger was taken to
a hospital in Taft where he shammed
Injury so successfully that not until
yesterday was ho seriously suspected.
Then he was brought buck here and
today was subjected to tho "third
degreo" for five hours by railroad
and express detectives.
Filially, breaking down, Hainlij
threw his hands over his head and,
weeping, sobbed out:
"Oh, 1 did It myself."
