They fill in a gap when flowers are scarce. The Galantlius (snow drop) with its fragrant whito dangl ing blossoms and l.eiicojum (giant snowdrop) with Its fragrant and green-spotted while floral clusters, are rivals for earliest blooms. The Crocuses are next in line, coming In to bloom early in February, and their large funnc 1-Bhnpcd stemless flowers have a good range of colors. These are most freiiiently used in beds or borders, but do equally as well Ill groups on the Inwu right In the grass. I'lant two or three Inches deep. The Narcissi family runs thru a wide range. All are fine In beds or bor ders. Plant three Inches deep nnd four to six inches apart. Jomiutls like Crocuses, are fine naturalized In open groups In the lawn. All the bulbs for naturalization in the lawn die soon after flowering, and do not Interfere with cutting the lawn as they may be mowed the snmo as tho grass. Tulips have brilliant colors, and no bulb planter can afford to miss Iheni. They are almost too well known to need description, but are not grown as much as they should be. It Is a mistake to think they must be taken up after flowering, as they do fine naturalized 111 a bed or bonier. A bed of Hutch Hyacinths in full flower Is a pretty sight and 1 delightfully fragrant. It may be ! large or small, of one color or as niaiiy as you like. Plant three to four Inches deep and six inches apart each way. These do best taken up alter flowering and planted ligilin In the fall, but will do well in a perma nent bed. Fur the very best results new bulbs should be obtained that are Imported , from Holland each year. While planting the bulbs do not forget some of the lilies. These are so easily grown and do not require as much sun as some ether flowers. Iris should net I"" neglected, the Spanish is good, the Gorman Is fine, but the Japanese Is splendid. Here you find a veritable natural park, through which flows the pure and sparkling mountain water of Roberts Creek. The soil is deep and mellow and the land is level.
