ARMAGEDDON OF THE SCRIPTURES Startling Presentation ol Com ing Events. PASTOR RUSSELL'S VIEWS. Churches of AH Denominations and the Civil Powera of Earth Are About to Unite In Common Cause Powerful Influence Preparing For the Battle Of Armageddon A Reign of Anarchy Will Be the Reeult of the Warfare Until The Meatiah Takea Control. Ilrooklyn, N. Y., Nov. 3. Tho Brooklyn Acndemy of M ii a 1 c was crowded to tlio lim it today to hear Pastor ItiiBsell's dUcoiirse on the "llattlo of Arms geddon." Ills text was: "lie gathered them together unto a placed called In the II oh row tongue Armngoddo n." (Ttevelntlon zvl, 10.) The speaker said: Armageddon in the Hebrew signifies the "Ulll of Meglddo," or Mount of De struction. It was famous ns a battle field In Old Testament times. The Lord has seen fit to associate the name Armageddon, with the great con troversy between Truth and Error, right and wrong, God and Mammon, with which this Ago will close, perish, and the New Age of Messiah's glory be ushered In. Ho hns purposely used highly symbolical figures of speech in the last book of tho lllbtc, evidently with a view to hiding certain impor tant truths until tho duo tltno for their rovenlmcnt. ltut even in the duo time, the Bible- nsHurcs us, "Nona of tho wicked shall understand" (l)anlel xli, 0, J0)-none who are out of heart har mony with Ood but only tho wlso of Ills people tho "wise virgin" class of tho Master's pnrahle. I have long avoided presentation of my understanding of our text and Its context. I take It up now by request and because I hellevo It Is due tlmo to be understood. I disclaim any special Inspiration. In somo particulars my views agree with those of other Hlblo students, and In other respects they disagree. Knrh hearer rnunt uso his own Judgment, do his own Hlblo study, and reach his own conclusions. Kindly remember that I am not re sponsible for tho figures of Hpeoeh used by the Lord. My Interpretations do In deed constitute a terrible arraignment of Institutions which we have all rever enced and which embrace good people, of good wonts and good works, (bid's saintly people In thenn various Institu tions, being comparatively few, are Ignored when systems us a whole are dealt with In prophecy. Those "doctrines of demons." repre sented by the "frogs." will lend many noble people In this great army to ns sume an attitude finite contrary to their nreference. Kor a time the wheels of liberty nnd progress will he turned backward nnd medieval re straints will be considered necessary j for self-preservation for the mainte nance or the present onier or iiiuikh. In giving this Interpretation. It Is necessary for us to Indicate what is Mi'mhollzed bv the Dniuon. the Beast, 'and tho False Prophet. Hlblo Htudents ! of nearly all denominations agree with I us that the "Iragon" of Hevelntion represents the purely Civil Power. Protestant interpreters generally agree that the "Beast like n leopard" (Reve lation xlll. 2i represents the Papacy. But fewer si III. we fear, will be ready to support our view that Protestantism Is the "linage of the Beast" (Hevclatton xlll, l.ru In our context given another name, "the False Prophet." We urge no one to accept our Interpretation, nor shall we think hard of any who refuse It. We will neither slander nor otherwise Injure them now, nor threat en them with eternal torture. The have the same right to their views that I have, nnd the same right to make them known to others. And I, for one, will bo very glnd to consider any thing which opponents may set forth as their Interpretations of our text. "Unclean Spirits Like Frogs." The symbolisms of Scripture, right ly understood, ore always forceful. When tho Holy Spirit used a "frog" to symbolically represent certain doctrines or teachings, we may bo euro tho true application will fit well. A frog hns a sage look, n wise look. It swells Itself up In an npparent en-1 deavor to Impress the beholder. Its! great mouth well represents Its chief! power, used to croak. i Applying these symbols, wo learn I that an evil spirit, lulluoncc, teaching, will come from the Protestant churches federated, from the Church of Home, nnd from tho Civil authorities, all In full agreement. The spirit of all will be boastful; uu air of superior wisdom and knowledge will be proudly assumed-all will croak In harmony. All will tell of dire results that would follow. Involving tho Interests of both (lie present and the future life. If their counsel bo not followed. However con flicting (he creeds, (lie dllVereuces will be Ignored lu the general profwisitlon Mint nothing nmlent must be disturb cd. or looked Into, or repudiated. Tho Olvlne authority of (he Church, and the JHvJne right of kings, aside from the Church, will not bo allowed to conflict. Any persons or teachings In conflict with these boastful and un scriptural claims will bo branded ns everything t ile, at the mouths of these "frogs" speaking from pulpits ami platforms and through the religious nnd secular press. Tho nobler sent! ments of some will be strangled by tho philosophy of the same evil spirit which spoke through Cnlnphns, the high priest, respecting Jesuit. As Cnla phas duchtred It expedient to commit a crime In violation of Justice, human and Divine, to be rid of Jesus and His teachings, ho this "frog" spirit will op prove of every violation of principle necessary to their self protection. Tho croaking of these "frog" spirits or doctrines will gather the kings and princes, flnnnchil, poll t Ion 1, religious nnd Industrial Into one grent army. Tho spirit of fear, Inspired by tho cronklngs of theso "frogs," will scourge the passions of otherwlso good nnd rensonablo men to fury, desperation. In their blind following of these evil spirits, evil doctrines, they will bo ready to sacrttlco life and everything on tho altar of whnt they mistakenly suppose Is Justice, truth nnd righteous ness, under a IMvlne arrangement. ROSENBERRY, Owner th Scriptures, theBe 'coml)fD4d forei of Armageddon will triumph. Free speech, free malls, and other liberties which have come to be the very breath of the masses In our day, will be ruth lessly shut off under the plea of neces sity, the glory of God, the commands of tho Church, etc. All will seem to be serene, until the great social explosion lu our context described as the "great Enrthminke." An "earthquake," in symlKille language, signifies social revolution, nnd the declaration of the context is that none like unto It ever before occurred. (Revelation xvl, 18, 10.) .lesus described It as a time of trouble such as never was since there wns a nation. Matthew xxlv, 21. The Lord Will Gather Them. The false, frog-llko teachings will gather together Into one host the great, (he rleh. the wise, the learned and the kings of the earth, to battle. At this Juncture Iilvlne I'ower will step for ward, nnd our text tells us that HE shall gather tho marshaled Ifosts to Ariimgeddon-tb the Mountain of Ie struetlon. Tho very thing which they sought to avert by their union, federu (Ion, etc., will be the very thing they will hasten. Other Scriptures tell us that Cod will lie represented by tho Great Messiah, mid that He will be on the Hide of the masses. Thus we rend n Daniel xil. 1: "At that time shall Michael It tie Godlike Une-Messlah stand up" assume authority. He will take possession of Ills Kingdom in a manner little looked for by innny of those who erroneously have been claiming that they were Ills Kingdom. and authorized y Him to reign In Ills name nnd lu His stead. Jesus declared, "His servants ye nre uutd whom ye render service." 801m1 may he rendering service to Satan nnd to error, who claim to be rendering service to God nnd to righteousness; and some of these may be serving Ig nornntlv, ns did Saul of Tarsus, who "verily thought that he did God 0 sen lee" In persecuting the Church. The same principle holds true reversely As 1111 earthly king does not hold him self responsible for the moral character of each soldier who fights In his bnt tles. so tho Lord does not vouch for the moral character of nil who will enlist and fight on His side of any question "Ills servants they nre to whom they render service," whatever tho motive or object prompting them. The same principles will apply In the coming (tattle of Armageddon. God's side of that battle will be tho people's side, and (he very nondescript host the people, will be pitted at the begin ning of the bnttle. Anarchists, Social Ists. nnd hot-beaded radicals of every school of reason and unreason, will be In the forefront of that battle. Th majority of tho poor nnd the middle clasti prefer pence at almost any price. A comparatively small number, God's consecrated people, will at heart bo longing for Messiah's Kingdom, Thcso will bide the Lord's tlmo and wait pa tiently for It; they will be of good courage, knowing the outcomo outlined In (he "more sure word of prophecy," to which they hnve done well to take heed, "ns unto a light shining In a dark place until the Pay down." II Peter I. 10. The masses will Ihj restless of their restraints, hut will be conscious of their own weakness ns compared to the klivrs and princes, financial, religious nnd political, which will then hold sway. Itesldes, the mosses have nu sympathy with anarchy. They realize truly that the worst form of govern ment Is better than none. The masses will seek relief through the ballot and peaceful readjustment of earth's af fairs for the elimination of evil, for tho placing of monopolies and utilities and the supplies of nature In the hands of tlu people for the public good. The crisis will bo reached when tho hither to upholders of law shall become vio lators of the law and resistors of the will of (he majority ns expressed by (he ballot. IVar for the future will lead the well meaning musses to dosper ntlon; nnd anarchy wilt result when Socialism falls. The Cloud's Silver Lining. Horrible would Ihj this outlook for the future did we not have the Infalll ble Word of God nssurlng us of a glorious outcome! Divine Wisdom has withheld until our day the great knowl edge nnd skill which Is at the same time breeding millionaires and discon tents. Had God lifted the veil a thou snud years sooner, the world would have lined up for Its Armageddon a thousand years sooner. Hut that would have Immmi ton soon for (he Pi vine purposo. because Messiah's King dom Is (o I it 1 he great Thousand Year Sabbath of the world"s history. God In kindness veiled our eyes until the time when the gathering to Ar imu.eddon would Immediately precede Messiah's taking lo Himself Ills great power, and beginning His lelgn.-lieve lation xl. 17. IS. "Send Them Strong Delusions. Thus they will Im' In (he condemned host, "tight lug i:;ilut God." htvnuse of their lack of low for the Truth. It Is sad to say that we nil as Chris tiaus have been laboring under thor ough delusion resectlng God's I'hin. We have claimed that Christ set up Ills fhtiivh In Kingdom power, nnd that the Church hns been reigning on tho earth ns Ills representative. On tho strength of this delusion, Jews nnd heretics hnvo beeu persecuted to death as opponent to ChtWi Kingdom. All the while .v thoughtlessly ropea'po1 the Lord's prayer: "Thy Klngd :tn come; Thy will be done 0 1 4 irth, a- lu Heaven." Wo knew that (lie UeUeeiiier said that Ho woald come again to make us Ills ft ride and Joint-beirs; but wo Ignored the Scriptures. We were drunk, as tho Scriptures symbolically say, "all nations were drunk" with the false doctrine. It Is this false doctrine that will constitute the "frog" spirit which soon will begin to croak and to prepare for Armageddon. The Bible presentation la that the world hi a section of the universe tn rebellion against Divine authority, un der the captaincy of Satan and his as sociated fullen angels. By Divine grace Jesus has already "tasted death for every man," nnd the merit of that sac rttlco must, eventually, grant Adam and his posterity a full, fair opportunity for the attainment of everlasting life. All who thus see the Divine program and ore walking In the light may know something at least respecting the "times and seasons." These brethren "are not In darkness, that that day and that battle of Armageddon should overtake" them "as a thief un awares. Armageddon Not Yet but 8oon. Hitter and angry feelings 011 both sides are more and more manifest. The Hues of battle are dally becoming more distinctly marked. Nevertheless Armageddon cannot yet be fought. Other mutters Intervene, according to prophecy. Still another tiling lutervcnen: Al though the .lews are graduaily flowing Into Palestine, gradually obtaining con (rot of the land of Canaan, and al though reports say that already nine teen millionaires are there, neverthe less prophecy requires nu evidently larger numlor of wealthy Hebrews to be there before the Armageddon crisis be reached. Indeed we understand that "Jacob's trouble" in the Holy l.nnd will eome at the very close ot Armageddon, Then Messluh's King dom will begin to he manifested.
