streets and large modern buildings,
with evidences of growth on every

immense wealth. Farming here
on a broad scale, cultivation being
done with plows often coupled to

traction engines. Harvesting like-
wine is done with gasoline or oil en
gines, a single tractor operating four
binders with far better Hpeed and
regularity than could bo done with
horses. This also saves a great ex
pense for the care of teams and
cnjtlpnunt and the employment of
men to handle them. As It is, an
army of men Is needed for shocking,
threshing and hauling the grain to
the railroads. lu this region the
farms are largo and two crops will
bring a fortune to the owner. Oil
setting this, however, is the very dis
couraging factor that only one crop

success. This is from a variety of
causes. Lack of seasonable rains
often causes a crop failure. At oth-r
times a downpour coiuch when the
grain Is nearly ready t cut and most
of the crop is lost. Again a cold wave
may sweep down from the broad e

before the wheat is ripened, ruining
it for milling purposes.

radiate from here. The town is build

The company reports the sale of
three cars. The first grossed $1351
being a car made up of shipments
from various orchards. Prices ranged
from $2.60 to $2.90. The second
car grossed $1449, nnd was loaded
wilh Hill fruit. Prices ranged from
$2.70 to $3.1 5 a box. Tho third car,
mostly from tho Daggett orchard,
grossed $ 1 f4 1. Prices averaged
$3.05.
Tho Producers Fruit Company,
hoping-to duplicate tho success of
last year, has shipped four cars of
llosc to Glasgow via Montreal. They
met with remarkable success In that
market a year ago and hope to do

western flour price In recent years
was $6.35 a barrel, current In Janu
