Mil liard Ac McClnnls, of Portland, were the successful bidders on the street paving for this city and were award ed the contract Monday night at a special meeting of the council, the bid being $2;. !.". The paving will include three blocks on Central avenue running from the Southern Pacific right of way eastward, two blocks on Calapooia drive, and two blocks on State street. The work will begin within ten days and will be finished before October 20. The new Improvements will consist of concrete roadway with a six-foot parkway of crushed granite and ce ment gutters on either side. The new water system just In stalled In the city by Jeffrey & lluft ton, of Portland, has been completed, and the reservoir, with a capacity of ino, Out) gallons, Is now being filled preparatory to testing the fire pres sure. The system includes a well sunk In solid rock, 100 feet deep, a complete pumping plant, three miles of wood mains with HO serviceable fire hvdrants, and a cement reservoir Hltuated at a height of 1X0 feet above the city.
