Samuel Suiead, the rancher who died at his home 13 miles west of tills city last Saturday evening, was the son of pioneers who settled In Oregon us early as 184a. His mother is still living at. the age of 82 years at Albany, where he was born years ago. The remains were taken today to' Albany by Mr. Smeads brother. Monroe V. Siuead, of Swept Home. Linn County, and they were given burial at Albany this after noon beside the graves of Mr. Sniead's father and a brother. A second brother and two sisters also survive the deceased. They are Douglas Smead and Mrs. Ira Wel liorn, of I'rineville, Or., and Miss Kinma Smead, who lives with her mother. Mr. Sniead's daughter. C Urging the necessity of legislation establish ing maximum and minimum tolls for the Panama Canal and government for the canal, President Taft In a special message today to Congress requested speedy action on the Pana ma Canal bill. He made It plain that failure to enact such laws might delay the opening of the canal. A one man government for the canal was the plan agreed to by the Senate this afternoon, and this Is almost identical with the language of the House bill.
