RHEUMATISM Rheumatism Is due to an excess of uric acid, aa Irritating, inflammatory accumulation, which Rata into the circulation because of weak kidneys, constipation, indigestion, and other physical irregularities which are usually considered of no importance. Nothing applied externally can ever reach the seat of thia trouble; the most such treatment can do is soothe the pains temporarily; while potash and other mineral medicines really add to the acidity of the blood, and this fluid therefore continually grows more acrid and vitiated. Then instead of nourishing the different musclca and Joints, kn-plng them in a normally supple and elastic condition, it gradually hardens and stiffens them by drying up the natural oils and fluids. Rheumatism can never be cured until the blood is purified. S. S. 8. thoroughly cleanses and renovates the circulation by neutralizing the acids and driving the cause from the system. It strengthens and Invigorates the blood so that Instead of a sour, weak stream, depositing acrid and painful corrosive matter in the muscles. Joints and bones, it nourishes the entire body with pure, rich blood and permanently cures Rheumatism. 8. 8. 8. contains no potash! alkali or other harmful mineral, but is mads entirely of roots, herbs and barks of great purifying and tonio properties. SCHOOL NITKHVIHOIt.S TO 11K AI'I'OIXTKI) AI'HIL Douglas County Itourd Gives Time fur Applications llilru One May lie Addt'd. Appointment of district school su pervisors for Douglas County was not made by the county educational board at Its meeting In Hose burg last Saturday night, because of the lack of opportunity beforehand for the fil ing of applications for the positions. The board decided to defer the mak ing of appointments until another meeting, which will be held In this city on April 27. This will afford ample time for the submission of applications. At present, the county nus two district school supervisors, J. J. Ker nan, of the south end, aud K. 11. liedrlck, of the north end. besides the filling of theBe posltlous, either by reappointment of the present In cumbents or with new men, the board is seriously considering the creation of a third supervisory office. In some Quarters the abolishment of the supervisors altogether has been advocated, but the board could not do this even were It so disposed. The law makes their appointment compulsory. Advisability of a tnira supervisor Is suggested by the great amount of work now devolving upon the present two. Each is looking after it) dis tricts, the maximum number pre scribed by law, and these are si-ut- tered over a wide area. The board has the power to appoint one super visor for every 20 districts. This would penult the iiiuliitnlnunce of at least five In this county, but the bourd thinks that three will be suffi cient for the present. The tenure of service of supervis ors is ten consecutive mouths, from September 1 to July 1. Salary ranges from $101) to f 120 per mouth, according to tho discretion of the board, to whom is iiIho left the ques tion of whether the supervisors shall pay their own traveling expenses, liouglas County's two supervisor draw $120 per month nud pay their own expenses. The legal qualifica tions of a supervisor are that he shall hold a valid certificate and have had at least nine months experience touching. Ills special training, how ever, will be the chief factor 111 tne determination of his fitness for the position. siMi i.i: Mi vn m: 1 si n i. itosi:m it(i. Judge llalrstop, K. 11. Willis aud Judge lloleu, who are attorneys for the outlaws, are now busy In rounding up witnesses for the men. It Is known the outlaws can count on almost a score of men who will take the stand and swear they cannot decide who fired the fatal Bhots. Naturally, in the flashes, smoke and excitement that marked the courthouse ussassinutions, few persons were cool enough to observe from which blazing gun the killing bullets streamed. Krlel Allen, youngest of the eight of the Allen gung, was captured late Friday in a carriage shed at the home of his father, Jack Allen, eight miles from here. He cheerfully submitted to arrest.
