have been many (juarrels. .lclluffy
claimed that another man was sup
planting him in the home. The Mo
lluffy family had four children, the
oldest a boy of 14. tne youngest two
yeara old.
The trouble this morning was re
vived over the old charges against
the wife and the other man. Mc
Uuffy wuh violent and abused the
woman, when the latter started to
get away und went to the pantry of
the house. McDuffy followed and
shot her In the breast. The woman
ran itito the yard and the husband
followed.
Just as Mclmffy waa preparing to
shoot at his wife aguin his son-in-law,
Allan ilovd, aieared and
shielded Mra. McDuffy. McUuffy
then placed the weapon to his own
head and killed himself. He was 40
years old and had been in llandon
for several years. He was a painter
by occupation. The man In the cuhh
Is aaid to be a llandon chef. At a
late hour the physlciuna announced
that Mra. McHuffy has a chance for
recovery. The couple formerly con
ducted a hotel at llandon.

Hanna, who resigned before the de
cision was Riven. The decision was
given by his successor. Judge K. M.
Catkins, in favor of the plaintiffs.
The case lasted In court stx and a
half days. A large number of wit
nesses were examined by both sides.
Practically every placer miner In
Southern Oregon took a band in the
fight with the defendants, while the
plaintiffs had the backing of nearly
every farmer in the Anplegnte Val
ley, the most of whom donated funds
to help those who were In the fight
in which they were Interested.
A mine had been In operation about
4' years discharging debris Into the
Appb gate Ither year by year, filling
up the channel of the stream and
causing It to overflow and destroy
valuable farm lands adjoining the
river.
The case was np pea led from the Cir
cuit Court of Jackson County to the
State Supreme Court, which court
granted a permanent Injunction
