THE WAY SOME PEOPLE GO INTO
THE POULTRY BUSINESS.
The following story Ib told by El
bert Hubbard In the Feb. Philistine:
Yesterday a man whose eighty ad
joins mine on the north, drove up In
front of the shop and sent in word
that be wanted me to come out and
see something. I went out, climbed
onto his wagon, looked down Into a
barrel, and what do you think I saw?
A mother skunk with six little
white and black Bkunkeens, their eyes
just open. No, Teresc, the skunk is
not an extinct animal. My friend
lifted the kittens and bandied them
and passed them around for admira
tion. He stroked them lovingly. And
certainly they were beautiful, blink
ing, fluffy, innocent little proposi
tiona, guiltless of any thought that
their ancestors had violated the
Sherman Act thru deeds In restraint
or trade.
This farmer was once a floorwalker
In a Buffalo department store. He
became Inflated by a booklet showing
bow bens lay eggs and hatch them in
geometrical progression. You know
how the poultry books tell It. Well,
he quit his Job, moved to East Aur
ora, and built five long poultry
bouses with board floors. And be
hold the skunks came, and they
worked time and a third. Behold
again, they Increased In a geometri
cal way, even If the chickens didn't

He offered to sell me the family In
