W. General Jule Colcou. former
military tyrant of Haytl. was con
demned to death today on the charge
of having instigated a riot on March
IS. 11-05, in which ten persons, in
cluding three of his own brothers,
were shot to death. The accomplices
of Colcou were acquitted. The date
of the execution was not settled.
He is absolutely illiterate, and
while in office used a rubber stamp
for signing documents He betrayed
his own brothers to President Alexis
on March 14. ISHiS. and personally
directed their execution the follow
ing day. On that occasion he killed
2? men In less than an hour, but
only ten of these murders were In
eluded In the charge against him.

the meeting In a turmoil.
At the close the Socialists hurried
their own speakers to the platform,
from which "militarism" was de
nounced in rabid terms.
It was Just at the very height .f
the meeting, while James E. West, of
Washington. U C. chief executive
of the Boy Seoul movement in Ameri
ca, was reading the Scout oath, that
a party of lads, only too evidently
Incited by those opposed to the meet
ing, rose and stalked out in a oody,
while the wooden building fairly
echoed with the cheers and yells of
the serried rows of Socialists.
It was In the midst of uproarious
yells of ".Militia." "Lawrence" and
"Massachusetts" that the Baden
Powell party left the building, while
further hisses speeded their auto
on Its way.
The uproar In the auditorium di
rectly "followed up" the street dem
onstrations of the Socialists Friday
afternoon and yesterday morning
when Baden-Powell and the Boy
Scout movement was satirized and
derided by ribald banners.

Eugene Guard: A grading outfit of
70 tons magnitude has arrived and
will be unloaded here In a day or
two and put to use In throwing up
the grade for the Oregon Electric
between the long trustle and the site
of the big steel bridge. This grade
will average about 18 feet In height
and the machine will do the work
by simply taking two trips over the
ground, one on each side of the grade.
Something of the magnitude of the
machine may be Imagined when you
realize that It will take about ten
days to set It up. The boom or crane
which carries the shovel Is sixty feet
In length. The shovel will take two
yards of dirt at a trip and about
2000 yards a day can be easily
handled. Ten men will constitute
the entire crew.
The machine will be assembled
near the depot, from which place It
will be propelled under Its own power
to the site of the first job. When In
actual operation four engines are
used. It is the property of Guthrie

SALEM. Or.. March 10. Charged
with having placed poison to kill a
dog. Isadore Greenbaum, a leading
merchant, ex-councilman and chair
man of the finance committee, was
indicted among others by the Marion
County grand jury Saturday. It Is
alleged that he poisoned the dog of
Mrs. A. E. King.
A feature In this connection Is tes
timony which probably will come up
at the trial that Greenbaum en
deavored to have -Mrs. King desist
from prosecution by offering to give
her the best silk dress which he had
