Canyonvllle's city election was very quiet Wednesday, with only about half of the voters casting a ballot. The whole number cast was 27 votes. Frank tloiikins and I). I). Cornelius tied for councilman with 17 votes each, and will have to draw lots to decide the election. The votes each candidate received were as fol lows: Councllmen, Mauriin SwhuK, 20; H. F. Burnett, 19; J. K. O'.Neel, 19: J. J. Fallln. 18; H. I. Cornelius, 17; Frank Hopkins. 17; J. P. Snilck. 14. The first four with the man who wins the saw-off on the lie will be the councllmen for the ensuing year. Yet It is not only necessary In a boy's own interest that he should learn all these things in boyhood, in order that he may be equipped to cope with any emergency that he may meet, but It is most beneficial to him In the development of manli ness, self-reliance and mutual help fulness, as well as In physical de velopment. The Boy Scouts are trained not only to take care of themselves under any conditions, I ut to help each other. If two boys go hunting together and one of them is wounded, breaks a bone or is In danger of drowning, his companion should be able to stop the flow of blood and bind the wound; to make a splint tor the broken bone; to help his comrade out of the stream and clear his lungs of water. Such simple, necessary things, as well as those already enumerated, the Boy Scout learns, and he Is a better, moro useful citizen for knowing of them. The Boy Scouts are not a military organization, but they learn many things which are of valuo to a sol dier and which enhunce their value as soldiers. Discipline, co-operation. ability and willingness to help con tribute to the making not only of a good soldier hut of a useful cltl zen. All the things which equip a boy for a ramble in the forests and mountains are of value to the sol dior.
