COUVAM..JS. Or., Jan. 15. Sec
retary K. K. Wilson, of the hoard of
regents of the Oregon Agricultural
College, has announced the purchase
of an acre and a half of laud Ju?t
north of the present court of honor,
west of the engineering shops, as a
site for the school of mines building.
"The contention that land aboit
the college Is being held at too hign
a figure, and that the college lias
been paying too much for Its campus
additions Is disproven by the present
case," said Mr. Wilson. "The col
lege offered JJiWO to I'rof. Knelsley,
the owner, and upon his refusal ut'
the sum, a board of condemnation1
made the amount $:i"i0), u decision
which has been accepted by the col
lege. The plans and specifications fo.
the new building have been prepare!
and the college will advertise for bids
on its construction about Feb. 1.
Another important action of the
board was the arrangement with the
i:orallis fire department for co
operation with the college In tho pro
tecting of the buildings. As th.1
Mate carries no Insurance on Its pub
lic buildings, the college pledged It
self to the last Legislature to pro
vide proper fire protection.
A new addition to tho faculty Ik
Mr. Calvin C. t'omlinsou, at present
