For a long time rl.e largest number of Inquiries from one Ktate were received from MUnni. but this state has been below the average for tunne time. From the : present indications the inquiries from Kastern states will Increase ma terially during the month, and pro!:-. ablr Illinois will stand ut the head of the list after this month, for v. time at least. Washington and Cali fornia follow in number of luquirie-i. The average number were received from Minnesota, Montana. Colorado and Idaho, but much less than thrt ! usual average from the other states. ,Many of the correspondents say that .they are experiencing some difficulty! I In disposing of property in the Easr,' but that as soon as they can muke sales they expect to come west to locate permanently. Fourteen famil ies wrote they would locate in or near Roseburg during 1912. und some of them have already arrived. i Fifty per cent of the inquiries were general, many of them simply: asking for Information about Kos -burg and vicinity, 14 per cent wetv relative to general farming. 2 per cent Truck farming, 11 percent home stead lands, 3 per ceut timber, 8 per cent fruit. Quite a number asked for the names of real estate men, stating that they wished to purchase land In this vicinity "If everything was all right." Three wish to know when construction will commence1 on the railroad to th' coast (In addition to several thousanl more in this immediate vicinity t . One asks if Roseburg has a high school, and one If the club sends out truthful Information. One asks ua to send him a description of all the land subject to homestead entry in the Willamette Valley, and anothe.' asks us to furnish full information about Odessa, Washington. One question is. "Have you ever had a hail storm in the I'mpqua Valley?" and another. '"Are you well stockJ with lawyers?" Trades are offered in South Dakota. Michigan, and Cor vallis. Ore. Visitors from nine states registered during the month, and alii say that the immigration westward this year will be the largest in the history of the Northwest. One hundred and nineteen letter., were sent out to local business men asking them to subscribe to the pub licity fund for the ensuing year, sub scription slips being enclosed, and all of them but 111 responded wit!i a subscription. A list of names show ing the subscribers to this hind wilt be published during the month, in order that the general public may be Informed as to who is to b.- cmliiel with the support of the publicity work this year, and the list will prob ably be eorretMi t'roni time 1 1 Mm in order that new subscribers to t'r.r fund will get proper credit. The committee on publicity subscriptions believe that the publishing or the lint of subscribers Is a matter of justio" to the subscribers. The amounts subscribed will not be published, as the committee look upon thfl e.ldenr;j of co-operation as the valuable feat ure rather than the actual amount subscribed. The prospecta for Ro:e burg's growth this year are excliein. and many substantial families will he added to the population as a re- 'sult of past publicity work, but un less the business men of Roseburg 'show more willingness to asMst lu j the work this year, the publicity cam , paign will not equal that carried on , by other cities of the West, many of ! them much smaller cities than Rose I burg.
