Reports from 70 of the principal cities of the country printed In the current Issue of Construction News of Chicago shows that building opera tions continue on a very satisfactory scale. As shown by these reports the total volume of building permits issued last month amounted to $-',-, U9.0H7 as compared with $ 1 .1 :i 03 for the same month one year ago. Total number of permits issued in November, 1 6,98, and for Novem ber, 1910, the number was 16.23u.l Of the cities reporting 37 show a gain and 33 a loss. The totals for July, August. Sep tember and October were larger thftn for the same months In 1910, which makes it altogether probable, that the last half of tho year will show an Increase In operations over that of 1910. i The decrease In operations amount-1 ing to approximately $3,000,000 is due to a fall-off In the three prln-' clpal centers of New York, Chicago and Boston. St. Louis made a favorable showing with an increase of 24 per cent. Cincinnati is also making new records In its building operations. The largo totals shown In the re cent tables are largely made up of extensive operations in the way of new office buildings, lofts, apartment houses, hotels, etc., in tho larger cities, buildings for manufacturing purposes not having shown as much activity us in somo of the previous yeurs.
