passed by the teachers of Jackson
and Josephine Counties nt the last
session of the teachers' Institute in
Medlord last week.

tion held Friday in Salem on the
commission form of government, it
lost by about 2 to 1, the exact vote
being for, 7 26 against. The
opposition, it is said, was caused by
the fact that there was no provision
for a primary election.
Lumber mills in Oregon and Wash
ington will close for 30 days, com
mencing December in an effort
of the manufacturers to cut down the
supply of lumber going into the mar
ket, aud thereby bring about a rise
In prices. This was decided bv a
resolution adopted by the West
Coast. Lumber Manufacturers' Assc
elation, which met in Portland Fri
day. The lowest point in the state of
Oregon thus far marked by the C. S.
Geological Survey is in the Catblamet
quadrangle, so feet northeast of the
station at Clifton. 8.4 li feet above
mean sea level. There is a consid
erable difference between" this and
the highest point In the state thus
far marked. This point Is in CrattT
Lake National Park northeast of
Mount Scott. 74 46.26 feet above
mean sea level.

Saturday by the K. I.. French Com
pany. Compared with former years,
this season's output was very small.
Whereas the output In former years
has run from 30 to 40 cars, th?
present crop amounts to only 12
cars. The higher price paid for the
prunes this season will, however, dis
tribute a considerable sum ot money
among the fruit men.

Harvey Boher has sold his bunga
low and chicken ranch to Elmer
Coouer, and gone to Denver, Colo.
Joe Krewson, accompanied by his
mother, has gone on a visit to his
sister, Mrs. L. G. Miller, at Nelson,
B. C.
Henry E. Newton has leaaed a
piece ot ground from the rolling mill
and Is erecting a saw mill near the
railroad track. His machinery la al
ready In, and he will be ready for
business In a short time. He con
templates other improvements, and
will have a lumber yard there In .1

ace Putnam, parents of the bride.
Mr. 1'. P. Cunningham and Miss
Louise Putnam were united in mar
riage by ltev. K. M. Smith, pastor of
the Drain M. K. Church. Miss Put
nam graduated from the normal
school here with the class of 1906,
and since that time has been en
gaged In teaching school. Mr. Cun
nlugham Is from Fresno, California,
where the couple have gone to spend
the winter. They will return In the
spring aud reside on a small farm
near Drain.
