Such was a resolution passed by the teachers of Jackson and Josephine Counties nt the last session of the teachers' Institute in Medlord last week. With 1111 votes cast in the elec tion held Friday in Salem on the commission form of government, it lost by about 2 to 1, the exact vote being for, 7 26 against. The opposition, it is said, was caused by the fact that there was no provision for a primary election. Lumber mills in Oregon and Wash ington will close for 30 days, com mencing December in an effort of the manufacturers to cut down the supply of lumber going into the mar ket, aud thereby bring about a rise In prices. This was decided bv a resolution adopted by the West Coast. Lumber Manufacturers' Assc elation, which met in Portland Fri day. The lowest point in the state of Oregon thus far marked by the C. S. Geological Survey is in the Catblamet quadrangle, so feet northeast of the station at Clifton. 8.4 li feet above mean sea level. There is a consid erable difference between" this and the highest point In the state thus far marked. French Com pany. Compared with former years, this season's output was very small. Whereas the output In former years has run from 30 to 40 cars, th? present crop amounts to only 12 cars.
