Salem Statesman: Mabel Wallace has Instituted a Buit for divorce iu the Circuit Court, naming Richard W. Wallace as the defendant In 'he case. In her complaint she alleges that they were married In Roseburg iu 1908, that there is one minor child as a result of the union and that lite is no longer bearable as the wile of the defendant. She claims that nt one time the defendant knocked her down and rendered her unconscious. The sum of $15 per month is askeJ for the support and education of the minor child. Just a year and a half ago the little town of Sutherlln established Its first school with one teacher and less than a dozen pupils. Now 100 pupils are enrolled, four teachers em ployed and all grades up to the tenth are taught. The school house has cement walks and a heating plunt. eight lofty, well-lighted school rooivs in addition to the spacious library, and apartments for the principal and staff. Hill, the Itrookside Addition strawberry grower, Is in receipt of a photograph of his mother, Mrs. I. I.. Hill, of Lukeport. Cal., who was 103 years of age on the "tth of last May. Her father and grandfather both fought In the Revolutionary war. and on this account she rightfully claims the distinction of being the oldest living "real daughter of the Revolu tion." Mrs. Hill was the mother of eight sons and four daughters. Only two of the former and one of the latter are now living. When his train passed through Roseburg on his recent tour, Ben Shields, a resident of Roseburg. loaded a car cass of a deer on board for the de lectation of the Presidential party. I'nlucky for his peace of mind, he forgot that the train would leave the state long before the steaks and roasts had been consumed. The load ing of the deer was seen by hundreds of residents of Roseburg. who had gathered to see the "big smile." Among the crowd were one or twj of those busybodies who are deter mined that laws must be enforced to the very last letter. Now they demand that Shields be made a "goat." They even go so far as to hint thnt the deer was shot at the Instance of the Roseburg Commer cial Club and that Shields was hired to do it.
