til) I THWKSTHUX MONTANA IX (iltIP OF Iil.lZZAKD; Ill'TTK li:.MOHAMKI). SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 12. l)it patches received here last night at the general offices of the Oregon Short Line from the company's line men who had been battling all day against a terrific blizzard in South western Montana, paint a gloomy pic ture of conditions in that section. Snow, wet and heavy, piling In huge drifts, fierce gales, miles of telephone and telegraph wires dis arranged, poles uprooted and leveled, and light and power plants paralyzed is the substance of the messages at hand. At Butte, Mont., the storm center, the situation is believed to verge on demoralization. Streets and sidewalks have been obstructed by the tremendous and unprecedented fall of snow, streetcar service is annuled, and all business has practically been suspended. Since 9 o'clock Tuesday night, when all wire communiration with the city was severed, no definite word had come to indicate the real extent of the damage wrought. However, the railroads report that the snow lies to a depth of I y feet on the level, with the high wind caus ing drifts in many places to a depth of several teet. 1SKAD THIS. r. D.
