Rlchman. P. A. Comstock and family arrived In Sutherlin this week from Taylor's Falls, Minn., and have taken up their residence o)n their ranch west of town. Mr. Comstock will build a modern residence on his property next spring. Carl Fischer, of Dayton, Or., who has been engaged In the meat mar ket business for many years, has purchased the tools and fixtures in the market recently conducted by ihe Reed Bros.' Mercantile Company, and will open up for business during the present week. Mrs. E. Searle. of South Dakota, who has been visiting at the homo of her daughter, Mrs. G. Clinton Raitt, for several weeks, returned home last week. Mrs. Searle has a fine orchard tract In the east end of the valley and she intends to take up her permanent residence horn next spring. M ls Doris Becker, a niece of Mrs. Raitt. who accom panied Mrs. Searle from Dakota, will remain here permanently and enjoy; tho advantages offered by Sntherlln's excellent high school. Negotiations whereby the Laise Land & Development Company ac quire possession of 322 acres of land Immediately west of the South ern Pacific depot were closed last wetk. Over two hundred acres of the land, which is under the com pany's ditch, will be plowed this fall and planted with fruit trees. The land was purchased from C. G. Dur land last week and it Is understood that the consideration was $.r00. Tho company will now extend Central avenue across the Southern Pacific tracks immediately north of the de pot, and It is the Intention to connect this-avenue with the county road at some point a mile or two west of town. Surveys are now being made for the new road and the work will he completed this fall. The company is making arrangements to plant a very large acreage to orchards this fall and winter, and before next spring Sutherlin Valley will have ap proximately 5000 acres In young or chards, several hundred acres of which will conio Into bearing next spring.
