SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 8. Sena tor Moses E. Clapp, of Minnesota, and 'Governor Johnson, of California, attacked the attitude of President Tart In regard to the recall of the Judiciary In speeches today before the Direct Legislation League of California. The league 1b leading the campaign for the state consti tutional amendment for the recall of judges to be voted on October 10. "The President says he fears Judges will waver In their decisions If the recall were hanging over them." said Senator Clapp. "In all my experience I have never known a Judge who was Influenced In bis decisions by the presence of an Im pending election. There Isn't a cor rupt bosB or lobbyist or corrupter of public morals In the country who is not now flgh'ing the proposed recall of iudges. "The abject terror that the recall has caused certain parties to experi ence." (ioverno. Johnson asserted, "furnishes the humor of this cam paign. CHICAGO, Sept. 6. Arrange ments will be completed at a meeting of down-state politicians with local leaders here today for extending tbe organization of the Lincoln Protec tive League over the entire state. The league is already strong In Chi cago and promises to play an import ant part In the coming Illinois battle and to be an influence to be reckoned with in both state and National po litical affairs next year. In the call for the meeting here to day William Hale Thampson said: "The league will Indorse ac andl date for ofllce to be voted for In the April primaries. This means a full state ticket and a ticket In every Congressional and Senatorial district and in every county in Illinois. "We believe that the candidate for Governor should be a genuine Repub lican and a man upon whom all old line, practical, conservative, real Lincoln constitutional Republicans can unite. And in the words of a former lllinolsan, 'for the Remiblican host, led by this Intrepid man, there can be no defeat.' ' MINNESOTA FARMERS MAY FORM POLITICAL 1'ARTY. i MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Sept. 6. i For President of the United States, josh Jenkins, of Jonesvllle; for Vice . President, Si Perkins, of Podunk. I Some Biich ticket as this may be ' put in the field next year as the result of the inauguration of a "farmers' ! party for farmers" movement at a I meeting held at the Minnesota state ; fair today. It was the sense of the meeting that the farmers feed the i Nation and ought to govern it. and to accomplish this purpose a state ' political organization will ' e formed, i later to be made country-wide in its 'scope. The Farmers' Equalizer I League is the name proposed for the new party. The movement was start ed by P. V. Collins, editor of the Northwestern Agriculturist. He has ; been a life-long Republican and was ione of the delegates sent to fight the . Canndlan reciprocity bill. I "We propose that farmers get to I gether ns farmers, for farmers and to fight the political betrayers of the ! farmers," said Mr. Collins, the horny : handed son of toll, whose hands have , become horny from pounding a type j writer. "We represent no candidates ' for olllce, state nor National, and we i have consulted no party bosses, and i want neither assistance nor interfer : ence. "Farmers are defrauded, nespiseu and insulted politically simply be cause they nro a mob Instead of an organized army. The Farmers' Equal izer League will Investigate all pro posed legislation, from the viewpoint of the farmer, nnd will show its mem bers where they 'are at' politically." Dill pickles are best after going through a form of ripening. This Is only a softening of the tough skin of the cucumber, allowing the dill flavor to more thoroughly permeate the pickle.
