Thomas Smith, Jr., a well known former resident of HoBeburg, died suddenly In Portland Tuesday night, July 25, at the age of 38 years. He , was a son of Judge and Mrs. Thomas I Smith, pioneer residents of Douglas County, and was born at Winchester. Mis death Is the third In the family within the past year and a half. He hud been confined to bis room since last Thursday, but on the day of his death he appeared to be great ly Improved and remarked that he was "feeling tine. The eml came unexpectedly at 1 1 o'clock at night. Mr. Smith was In business in Port land. For many years previously he was a resident of (ilendale. His sister. Miss Helen, who is employed at Chehalls, Wnsh.. has gone to Portlund to take charge of the re mains and bring them to this city for burial in the family plot in the Masonic cemetery. Funeral arrange ments have not yet been made. With the demise of Mr. Smith, there survive the following eight sous and daughters of an original family of twelve: George and Lee Smith, of Grangeville, Idaho; Lynn Smith, of Salt Lake City: Nathan Smith, of Lakevlew, Or.; Mrs. O. F. Kohrer, of Newport: Miss Helen Smith, of Chehalis. Wash., and Mrs. R. B. Mathews and Miss Kmnia Sinlth. of this city.
