Whlsler. the noted author ity, of .Medford, Oregon, who has just returned from an extensive trip through Colorado, Iowa and other apple producing states of the Middle West. Mr. Whlsler admits that ho has been deeply impressed with the prospects for a very heavy crop which: must be marketed in competition' wllh Northwestern fruits. His Idea Is that Colorado will produce a crop equally as large as In 1909, when the output was something In the nelgh-j borhood of 5000 cars of apples. Mr. Whlsler states it as bis opinion that a different situation confronts the Northwestern producers this year than for a long time past. He feels that it behooves all of us to watch the entire situation closely, remem bering that values are based on the whole supply aud demand, not only of the commodity Itself, but of com peting commodities. In other words, the self competition of apples from different districts is enhanced by the competition of such fruits us oranges, bananas, etc. Mr. C. L. Oliver, secretary of the Amerlcnn Apple Congress, comments as follows: "If reports are to be relied upon, the production of apples In the Unit ed States this year Is going to be the greatest ever. Perhaps not the larg est crop ever produced, but sufficient ly large to make the problem of dis tribution a serious one." The Exchange is making extensive preparations for the distribution of Northwestern fruits during the com ing season. It is concerned solely with Northwestern products, and all of its work will be done to the protec tion of Northwestern interests. Loculj associations are urged not to muKe the mistake of waiting until the last moment before consummating effect ive marketing arrangements.
