New Term of Court Monday.
By reason ol a change In the law.
effective today, the current term of
court will expire tonight. For this
reason no criminal cases was taken
up la court today, it being feared
that the hearing could not be com
pleted upon the hour for adjouru-
ment. The time is being occupied
with the argument of civil cases.
All of the petit jurors have ben
discharged, but a new venire has
been drawn for another regular term
of court to begin next Monday niorn-
ing. in compliance with the new law.

Walter J. Scott was Indicted upon

In their final report, before being
discharged, the grand jury recom
mended the erection nr a new jail,
the present structure being decidedly
unsanitary. Suitable lire protection
for the records in the sheriffs and

the case of L. I!. Dowis. a grocer,
a charge has been made that she cast
the deciding vote and a re-hearing of
Howls' trial for selling liquor wlth-
out a license has been asked,
According to an nnidavit presented
by Uowls' attorney today, the Jurors
were eveninly divided In their do-
liberations and filliped a coin which
fell "tails," settling the verdict of
guilty.

Sea.
Mr. Hermann went abroad In
search of health and returns to his
illative heath In splendid physical con
dition, declaring that he Is enjoying
better health than he has for years

after entering the Mediterranean we
stopped at every point of Interest on
the Kuropeuu, Asiatic and African

Mr. Hermann was a willing talker
on any subject but politics, although
he spoke wistfully of a week's stay
in Washington and recounted with an
evident show of pleasure his meeting
with old Congressional friends.
"1 have no aspirations to return to
Congress, said Mr. Hermann, "and
any announcement that I shall again
be a candidate for the Congressional

companied her husband on the trip
ucross the Atlantic, will not return
to Hosehurg until later. She Is a
guest at the home of her daughter.

in the Circuit Court upon the fore
closure of a mortgage held hy the
plaintiffs against the defendants for

WASHINGTON, May 20. The
ways and means committee of the
House toduy decided to cut the pres
ent wool duties in half. Tho com-1

Simultaneously with the announce
ment that the committee had decided
to cut the wool duties In half, the
House Democrats sent an ultimatum
to members of the Senate that iin
less the Senate votes favorably on
the wool schedule bills, the Demo-1
cralH won't agree to a recess, but will '
keep Congress in session all summer.

wood believe they have overcome the
