The 'latest petitions reached the city council Monday nig lit. covering eleven blocks. Nine of these are in the Waite Addition and the otli:r two in the I'lint Addition. Of the nine blocks involved in and adjoining the Wnite Addition pe'l lions, six comprise tlml part of S.iiVh Main street, extending Ironi .Vo.-iK! to the city limits. TY.e other l hive are on South Jackson street. Ir m Moshcr to Haynes. The Kilnt Ad dition petitions embrace Wats in street, ono block lonj;. and Hamilton Avenue, from Watson street to also one block in length. The entire, cost of the improvement Is to he borne by the owners of the piopc ly aftected. Upon the immediate recommenda tion of the street committee, t ie council adopted resolutions declar ing its intention to order paving on the streets named in the' petitions. If there are no remonst ranees by next Monday n'ght, the city engineer will be Instructed to draft the neces sary plans and specifications. Such work was requested ot the englnei'i'. however, on four other blocks Mon day night. These are on Oak street from Hose to the railroad track, and on Douglas street, also from Itose to the. track. The city engineer presented an estimate of $1 774 for the proposed pavinK of i-ano street, from Main to Kane. This was accepted, and bids Tor the work will be advertised lor at once. A petition lor a street and side walk grade on llouck street, from KuUerton street to the river, in Hamilton Addition, was granted. Sewer Matters. V. C. Caddis was the only bidder for the laying or a sewer on Wash ington and Ciiadwtck streets. H's ligure was $:t4K, or $29 above the city engineer's estimate. Action on the bid was postponed in order to give the nlfec.ted property owners an opportunity to express themselves either favorable to the bid or against . H. Marsters. a local plumber, wan denied permission to make a number of connections with the sewei being laid in North IMsebura bv W. C. Gaddis. The position of the council was that, it had no jurisdic tion ovei the sewer because it was still in the comriietor's hands. Oa.l db: stated to the council that he would permit no connections with the sewer until lie completed it, un less such connections were mai.e nnder his personal supervision. The ground is on Howeu street, west ot the com pany's emergency hospital. It will be the first time in the city's history' th;.l a hose cart has been located west ol the railroad track. ! The rjiilioad company's offer was1 a most timely one. It was read to i he council a few minutes after W. I. Dysinger had served notice in per son tiiat the hose cart now being housed In his planing mill should he removed at once unless the council did one oi two tilings, either allow ii I in $ " per mouth rnt or locate a iire hydiant near his mill. Mr. Iy singer's ultimatum was prompted by t he action ot the council one we"k ago in allowing him only $7n on a rental claim ol twice that sum for housing the carl mouths.
