When the Masonic Grand Lod:e of Oregon convenes In annual session in Port land June 11, next, three leading Oregon Masons will convene a session of the Oregon Craud Lodge ou the slope of Mount Moriah. in Palestine, a mountuin noteworthy in Masonic history. It will be the llrst time in the history of Oregon Masonry that u session of the grand lodge of this state has been convened In the Holy 1 Land. The men who will participate 'in the 1'uique ceremony are Rev. J. I It. X. Bell, pastor of the First Pres Ibyterian Church of Corvallls; Profes sor J. B. Homer, of the Oregon Agri cultural College, and Dr. J. L. Hill, of Albany. These men have calculated the ex act hour. Palestine time, at which the grand lodge of Oregon will convene In Its aiinuul sessiou and at that moment they plan to be on Mount Moriah and convene their session. For 36 continuous years Dr. Bell has served as grand chaplain of the grand lodge of Oregon, thereby achieving the record of being the oldest grand chaplalu In Masonry In the world, and he will at that time repeat hltf prayers as grand chaplain, though on the opposite side of the world from his brother Masons of Oregon. Dr. Bell has taken 32 Scottish Rite degrees and 12 York Rite de grees, in addition to 96 "Egyptian de crees." He belongs to the blue lodge at Baker City, the chapter of Royal Arch Masons and the Council at Corvallls, the commandery of Knights Templar at Baker, the Eastern Star at Corvallls, the Scottish Rite Temple at Portland, and Is a charter member of El Kadcr Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, at Portland. Professor Horner Is also an active Mason, being a member of several Masonic organizations nnd having served recently as eminent command er of the Albany Commandery of Knights Templar. Snook, the well known Salem contractor, who built the Roseburg high school building, has been award ed the contract for erecting the new high school building at Ashland, where he has already put up two line buildings. He was born at Kellogg, In this county, on April .1, 1S.16, and was almost i'io years of age. He lived In this county all of his life except a few years spent in Eastern Oregon.
