Buchan an argued that the bill not only pro vided adequate salaries for all such officials but would prove a means for taking out of the hands of the legis lature the consideration at every ses sion of a Hood of salary bills. It was further contended for the bill that Its operation would tend to equalize the assessment of property throughout the state. Neuner and Huntington Oppose Hill for County Aided Fairs. Because of opposition that has de veloped. It la doubtful if the House will pass Representative Bryant's bill wblch proposes that the expense of holding county and district agricul tural fairs shall be paid out or the :ounty treasuries, rather than from the state treasury as at present. Bryant's bill provides that County Courts may make an appropriation for such fairs not exceeding $2000 per milium and at the same time ap point Borne competent person to serve IB superintendent of the exposition nil direct the expenditure of the fair fund. At the present time these county nil district agricultural expositions ire supported by an appropriation rom the state. Several of the ex sting soeletloB are before the legis ature this year asking for Increased ipproprinttons, while bills are pend ng asking for the creation of other issoclatlons. When Bryant's bill enme up for third reading today, objection was made to the measure by Neuner and Huntington, of Douglas, who said they could not support the hill in its uresent form.
