Marshfleld Times: Hush McLalu had an experience on his trip from Roseburg to Coos Hay by way of nuinner on tne old Coos 11a v waiton road i hat makes him more than ever au enthusiastic advocate of good roads. He left Roseburg Monday of last week and spent the entire six days reaching this city over some if the worst roads he thinks there are in this country. The road is good and had In spots and It Is these stints that dot the highway with delav and danger. The whole road Is r horrible example of lack of system In the niaiintr of Its management. Mr. Mr- Lain states that clote observation of the route convinces him that the road could be made passable in Coos county by an expenditure of 140.000 and probably $20,000 in Douglas count. Mr. McLain r?gards it as the best Investment both counties could make to forward their interests. Mr. McLain says In the conditl of the road in Borne sections that the width of the vehicle tires has no ef- rect, for wheels with tires as broad as the moral law would not be of any value. Ml five of the children of Matt Har rison, who was iniured at Roslvn yesterday by the explosion of powder In the Harrison home, r.re dead. The father. whOBe carelessness caused the xploslon. Is sinking. It Is believed 'he mother will recover. Two other children were not in the house at the time of the explo sion. Harrison was filling a small -anteen from a 25-pound can of blast ing powder, while smoking. The father, recovering slightly from the shork, took one of the boys In 'Is arms and made for the door, vhlle the mother, who was the least ''timed of all, took one of the other 'iovr and carried him to the street, nd returned and rescued her elght-nonths-old bnby and was making a hird trip into the burning building when the fire department arrived and stopped her. The explosion tore every portion of the house to pieces. One of the boyR died 20 minutes after thoy arrived at the hospital. 1 he baby girl and two boys died early today and the other one lived until noon today. WOMEN'S WOKS.
