Brooke, who confessed that he killed Mrs. Belle Ellis near this cltv on the Southern Pacific tracks, and who a few days later was adjudged Insane and taken to the asylum at Salem, is so Im proved that he Is now a trusty at the Institution. Brooke Informed the asylum officials that he, some years ago, received a wound on his head which he believes was the cause of his hallucinations and be lief that he killed Mrs. Ellis. Brooke, at the time of his sensational volun tary confession, said he killed the woman with a hammer.
