Personnel of Its Membership Believed
to be Conservative.
It Is conceded that the new Su
preme Court, as rounded out by the
appointments of Preslduut Tuft, Is
conservative.
Members of the bar who have
been endeavoring to classify the
probable attitude of the milted
States Supreme Court under the new
membership have concluded that it
is more conservative than it was
when the Standard Oil case and the
American Tobacco case were heard
last term. Leading lawyers of Na
tional reputation align the member
ship In about the following fashion:
Conservatives Chief Justice
White and Justices Day, Holmes.
Lurton and Hughes.
Radicals Justices Harlan and Van
Deventer.
Uncertain Justices Lamar and
McKennu.
Some are Inclined to put Hughes
on the uncertain list becuuso he Is
regarded as a politician, but Hughes'
friends say he will decide according
