In a speech here today, Brady said that President McKlnley, his sec retary of war and secretary of the navy knew this, and that part of the electric cable from the castle to the bomb was in the war department. He predicted that a jagged hole, with points bent inward, would be found when the ship was raised.. Brady said that Zavaldo was afterward shot on orders of General Blanco.. Story Ridiculous? WASHINGTON, D. C, Nov. 2. Captain Brady's statement regarding the destruction of the battleship Maine is branded as ridiculous by high officials of the army and navy. It is a gross abuse of the rights guaranteed by the Initiative and Ref erendum Amendment to the Oregon Constitution to bring up woman suf frage at every general election. This measure was submitted In 1900 and beaten by a plurality of 2137. In 1906 it was ugain proposed and was beaten by 10,173. In 1908 It was again on the ballot and it was beaten by a majority of 21,649. Notwith standing these repeated defeats, more decisive at each eletclon, the same measure Is again on the ballot this year. The ballot title 1b misleading and indicates a proposal to give votes to taxpaylug women only, but the measure to he voted on Is the same proposition which the people have so often and so recently condemned. It should be voted down this year by an .increased majority, especially be cause of the fraud undertaken to be perpetrated on the people by the, use of u false und misleading title on the hnllot.
