Portland Journal: Horace Tillard Jones, former special agent lor the department of the interior, will not bring mandamus proceedings against Richard A. Bnlllnger, secretary of the interior, charging that the secretary maliciously held up his application to he admitted to practice in the depart ment and its bureaus. This telegram received from his brother. Kugene A. Jones, of Washington, I), C, caused htm to change his decision: "Applica tion admitted today." Hon. O. P. Coshow of this city has been elected president of the Oregon Baptist convention, in session in Port land this week. MeMinvllle was cho sen as the next meeting place and Kev. k. H, Hicks or Ashland was named to deliver the annual sermon A resolution passed was as follows: "This convention hereby declares that the liquor traffic cannot be legalized without sin; It further declares its uncompromising hostility to the sa loon, and urges upon Its entire con stituency the duty of voting for pro hibition at the coming election. Max Friedenthal. th well-known traveling salesman, has complained to t ho railroad commission because he thinks three hours and forty-five minutes too much time for the South ern Pacific local to consume on Its trip between Roseburg and Cottage firove, a distance' of only 54 miles. Furthermore, he says the service pro vided between Grants Pass and other Southern Oregon towns by the gaso line motor operated on the main line of the Pacific company is poor. Ho says the company fails to post bulle tins as to the starting time of the mo tor and that he recently waited 25 minutes for the car to start that was scheduled to start on its run at 1 o'clock sharp. He-says that the time of a traveling salesman is just as valuable to them and to their firms as is the time of trainmen to them and the transportation companies.
