H. M. Oatman, the cigar and con
fectionery man, this week sold his
business to P. N, Butcher, the pro
prietor of the Farmers' Hotel. . Mr.
Oatman will go on the road for a fire
extinguisher company.

for surgical attention, but was taken
back to Sutherltn Saturday. His
home is at Cottage Grove. At last
reports he was getting on well, hut

known whether the accident will re

Mrs. Winifred Kellogg, wire or
Harry Kellogg, of Old Oakland, died
on Sunday. Jniv 23. 1910. after an
illness of a year, the last two months
of which she was helpless. She was
the dauirhter of Mr. and Mrs. F. L.
Benton, of this community, a sister
ot Mm John Jones, of Kellers, a
of Robert Benton, of Springfield, all
of whom were present at the funeral,
which was held on Monday, under
charee of Rev. J. R. Evans. Inter
ment was In Odd Fellows' cemetery.
The Women of Woodcraft, of which
Mrs. Kellogg was a member, attend
ed. In this order she carried $1000

ren, A sad condition of Mrs. Kel-
logg's demise is that there are left
motherless three small cntmren

E. Klelusaffer and her daughter
Mary, 9 years old, were killed, her
son lttld, 1, was fatally (njurea
and her son Joseph. 12, was severely
hurt In an automobile accident near
hero today. The automobile was
struck by a passenger train at Reed-
lev. 20 miles southeast of Fresno.
The train carried Klelnsaffer, who
expected to meet Ills family at Fres
no. The Klelnmffers came from Da
kota threo months ago. The father
had been In the east on a pleasure
trip. The family In the automobile
were racing to heat the train to the
station to bo In time to welcome him
home.
