INFLICTS $10,000 LOSS.
JUNCTION CITY. Or., July 28.
A fire originating iu the J. A. Bush
nell warehouse tonight did $10,000
damage and threatened to destroy
the town.
The big warehouse suddenly burst
Into flames and the proximity ot the
oil tanks, one containing 10,000 bar
rels of oil, within 50 yards of the
Are, and another containing 25,000
gallons only ten yards further away
caused great excitement. The Eu
gene lire department was summoned,
and the train carrying the apparatus
made the trip of 15 miles in 17 mtn
u tea.
Firebrands started eight or ten
blazes on roofs of stores and houses,
but they were extinguished before
doing much damage. The Eugene
department kept the fire confined to
the warehouse and depots one end of
which was destroyed, along with the
pump house and water tank. The
loss on the warehouse is $8000.
with no insurance, and the railroad
company estimates its loss at more
than $2000.
The origin of the fire Is unknown
KLAMATH FALLS. Or., July 28.
Fred Alexander, proprietor of the
O. K. feed barn here, was shot and
killed by George Welch last night.
Welch had been in the employ of
Alexander. The shooting was the re
sult ot a quarrel, and Welch, who
gave himself over to the authorities,
says It was done in self-defense, us
Alexander attacked lilm with a pitch

J. W. Stewart, a bride of two months,
who came here six weeks ago from
Spokane, drank three ounces of car
bolic acid yesterday afternoon and
died from the effects of the poison
last night. Mrs. Stewart was but 19
years of age, and apparently happy
and had never Intimated a suicidal
intent. . '

weeks of married life her husband
showed attentions to other women,
Mrs. A. W. Browne committed suicide
In a downtown hotel last night,
shooting herself with a 38-callbre re
volver. She was only 19 years old,
and was noted for her beauty.
