Oil is now California's biggest industry bigger than g ld. Oil is an extremely profitable
business when handled as a business proposition. Tin demand for oil is greater than the
supply. The demand grows greater daily. It is the only fuel now in use ou the Pacific
Coast by railroads, steamboats, factories and office buildings. Japan is using millions of
barrels of oil on her warships. The United States w ill unquestionably use oil in the Navy,
which will mean millions more. Oil is cheaper than the cheapest coal. It is the safest,
most economical, cleanest and the easiest fuel to handle. Oil will soon be the fuel of the

The California Oil Fields are now by far the biggest producers of fuel oil in the world.
The supply is apparently inexhaustible. Three pipe lines, costing about $10,000,000 each,
pump oil to tide-water, where it is transported to all parts of the world. A pipe line, costing
$25,000,000 is about to be built into Arizona, to supp'y the smelters with cheap fuel. The
price of oil at ths well is now around 60c a barrel it will go up. California oil stock is the
most profitable as well as safest investment ever offered the public, providing the oil com
panies are good, substantial companies.
California oil presents an opportunity to the capitalist and the wage-earner alike. Bankers,
business men, clerks, laborers, both men and women, are investing whether a million or a

For the first time in the history of
the Tented Shows making their an
nual pilgrimage to San Francisco,
thousands of people have been turned
away unable to gain admission to the
delights of the circus In San Fran
cisco last week.
This is the record of the Sells
Floto Show appearing in San Fran
cisco last week, if wo are to take
the evidence of the daily pupers of
that city to substantiate this state
ment. Never before, perhaps, has
such unqualified public approval
been given any circus by the resi
dents of that city. All the more In
teresting to us, perhaps, because the
Sells Floto Bhow Is billed to appeur
here on ednesuay next, tomorrow.
While It Is true that this circus
comes to us this year more thorough
ly equipped In its appointments and
greater in every way than ever be
fore, still the major reason for pub
lic patronage perhaps lies in the fact
that the standard price of admission
has been cut in half.

This year, however, the Sells Floto
people have carried war right down
into Egypt. They have done some
thing never before attempted or even
suggested in the conduct of a masto
donic attraction fo the nominal sum
of twenty-five cents it is now possible
for anyone to gain admission to the
mighty canvass and see the whole
show In Its entirety.
"This offer is made without any
reservation or evasion on our part,"
said Mr. Bennett, who was here a
few days ago representing the pro
prietors. "It was simply a case with
us of finding ourselves saddled with
a desperate fight. Other theatrical
and circus battles have been con
ducted mainly through the columns
of the public press, but heretofore
the public has never benefitted any
further than reading the lengthy
manifestos issued by belligefant
managers, and they always had to
pay the same old price when they
faced the treasurer at the box office.
We don't propose to carry on a news
paper war. we simply go to the peo
ple with this offer and since the
opening of the season we have played
to capacity at every performance.
Of course, there Isn't much money in
this fight for us, but the public will
benefit and our rivals will discover
that when they started In to fight us
something will happen every minute
if it doesn't we will make it happen."
The usual parade will be given on
Wednesday morning. May 18,
through the principal streets of the
city.
