Declared by 3Ielford Attorney fo Ik the Di'stlnation of Evtui K'llt Oliver. The vicious attack of Evantfnlist Oliver upon JikIro CoIvIk and other reputable Medford citizens has brought forth a red hot reply from Attorney E. E. Kelly, of that eity. in Friday's Mail-Tribune, as follows: VI have lived In Jackson county for 08 yearn," Rtated Judge W. M. Colvlg this morning, in duscuKsing Evangel iBt Oliver's attack upon hi in last evenliiK. In which he wtin bitterly assailed, "and 1 will leave the matter to the people of this Bectlon. "I could not reply to the utter ances of this tramp, for to do so I would have to stoop to his level, which la impossible, owing to my limited familiarity of billingsgate." Mr. Kelly's It -ply. To the Editor: I am creditably informed that the Bolf-Btyled Dr. (?) Oliver opened the flood-gates of his sewer-llko mind at the tabernacle lout night in nn attack upon Judge Colvlg and my self because of some things that had been said by Mr. Colvlg and myaell the preceding night at the Commer cial Club. Were it not for the fact that Oliver has misrepresented tht matter to his congregation, I do not think I would Indulge In any public controversy with a man of this char acter, but with nil the liiHtlncts ol his hyena-like soul ho has attempted to hide behind the flvo ministers and their congregations. Neither Mr Colvlg nor myself made any allusion to the ministers or the Christian peo ple of Medford. and the attempt of Oliver to distort these remark h Intc a reflection upon any one but him self shows what an arrant coward the man Is. Wonts for Oliver. And now, just a few words for thf self-styled doctor. My attention wai first called to Oliver by his crimlna conduct In Ashland, where he madt an attack upon the character of i young man and dug his wife up oui of a newly-made grave to clotho het with a most loathsome venereal (Its ease, and despite the fact that tin Ave attending physicians dented th Btatement over their signatures, in public retraction has ever been mnde At the same time this welf-styler" disciple dellverod himself of n slan-, derous and cowardly attack upon n young girl whoso very livelihood de ponded upon her good reputation. Tc bo assailed by this character thug this assassin of the reputation of de fenseless women, t tils grave-digging vandal who blackens the memory ol the dead, this foul sewer of hillings gate whose utterances nre as putrid as the breath of a pestilence, Is n compliment. Who Ik Oliver? Who Is Oliver? What Is he doctor of? Certainly no college or other In stltutlon of learning has ever con forred any such degree upon tlilt buffoon. Tu call this butcher of Divinity "doctor" Ih a lasting Mb'sl on every honest veterinary. Oliver is just what the Oregonlan styles him, "a grafter." The sholl mnn and the gold-brick man are gen tlemen of character ami decern compared to hlni; they prey only on the adult male, while this thug ol character takes the pennies of llttli children, the dimes of the women who toll In washtubs and the wid ow's mite. I am informed thai the price ol this crusade of buffoonery was-$2000. What sort of religion is I his? Cer tainly this brutality, this vile epiihet. this degrading scandal Is no part oi the religion of the meek ami lowh Christ who said, "Let him among voti who Is without sin cast the tl rt stone." Betrayer of Christ. If this Divinity quack is a dlsclnli of Christ he is a greater betrayer nf the Master than was Judas Iscariot and by comparison Judas had souk redeeming traits, for when he tuu the perfldity of his conduct Ik hanged himself. This ranting huToou pretended In lecture last night on the "M.tjesly or the Law," but liiHlead delivered him self of a criminally libelous attack upon one of the in out respected cltt zenB of the town, and who shall m that Judge W. M. Colvlg Is not nm of the oldest and most venerated members of local sorlety? If a grand jury were in session he would be Indicted In tlvo minutes and If tu: prosecution were given any serUiur consideration he might be facing n term In the ststn prison. "Majesty of the Law!" Travest of the law would he a better title Tills man belongs to either one of two places the state penitentiary or the Insane asylum and Is well on hip way. K. K. KELLY. Oliver' Choice (?) Verbiage. "The attempt of a pair of dlr' spawns of whlhky politics to heai opprobrium upon me last night at the opera bouse . missed fire. The powder was Rnaked loo full of sa loon Juice. The Insult Is not to me. but to the consecrated, couragcou pastors of the five churches repre senting almost 1 1 U0 church members, many of whom are members of the Commercial Club, which is disgraced by the two spokesmen of the saloon gnng In Medford bovo mentioned. 0 When the president of the Connner elal Club says that these noble pas tors are such consummate fools that they would send for a man to con duct a religious campaign under their auspices whose character is ques tionably he is a liar. "When he says that the 1100 church members who uuthorlzed these pastors to hi euro men for this campaign ure so degraded uud so utterly characterless that they would put up this money, erect u great tabernacle, the greatest ever built in Southern Oregon, and have their pas tors secure a 'religious fakir' to de ceive the peoplo of .Medford, under their, put rouagc, he insults every " purCj wumun In the churches, he In jSiills every gentleman in these churcheH, and in the name of uv pastors and the 1100 church mem- hers ii pon whose Invitation I came here,- I brand that old cur a damna ble, lying scoundrel. "The afternoon paper did no men tion the fact that at the open house last night n filthy henchman of the unlmm vunv n un itcli I n u'vfir art I I am informed, advised mob rule in Medford that is. that they take me and give me a co.it of the 'naterials used for street paving, and no on. I hereby challenge that oi rl ature uf a lawyer, that travesty on manhood, to bring out his imps of Med ford's whisky hell and gut buy. I em an American citizen and you haven'! enough rotten lawyers, saloon hums and whisky newnpanei-mon in Ore gon to Intimidate me. Kvery bit of opposition to me and my work In Medford has the salo.iii and unl'inn politicians back of it. There mut be a new Medford; thrj must be a new Medford, free from whisky lomiuutlon."
