During August of last year, Mr. Stephens moved from Wil bur to Olendale, In rapidly failing health, and nn March 9, of this year, he was contlued to his bed, from which he never arose. Mr. Stephens was a member of the Primitive llaptlst church. During the Indian wars of lS'ifi-lid he served as a volunteer under Captain Williams In both Oregon and Wash ington. On April 12, 1S57. he was married to Anna K. Thornton, who survives him. together with the fol lowing f of the 12 children who were horn to them: Mrs. F. M. Hor ton. Mrs. II. S. Stephens, fleo. F. Stephens nnd Charles I. Stephens, all of (Mendale; Mrs. I. T. Agee. of Mapleton. Lane county. Or., and Mrs. D. A. Shearer, of Coldendale. Wash.
