Marshal Hultmaa Proves to be Coed Collector During its regular session of less than one hour's time, the city coun cil on Monday night ordered the city engineer to prepare plans and speci fications for the macadamizing and curbing of parts of North Jaclrsoll street, West First street and Second Avenue North, In North Koseburg. The council referred to the street committee a petition for similar im provement on South Jackson street, from Mosher to Waite, 5 blocks, hi the Waite Addition: city to pay for the intersections, surveying and ad vertising. Ben W. Olcott, who oxperted the city's financial records, filed through Councilman Josephson, a bill for $r3ii for himself and an assistant, also a third bill or $19.60, from Mrs. Evelyn Johnson, for typewrit ing Olcott's report. The bills will be audited at the next regular meet ing of the council. Olcott's report showed that two former officials owed the city a total of $10 H. 1... Slocum, ex-treasurer. $10, on a clerical error in computing interest on a warrant. Mullen, stnted as a by-matter that the practice of hitching horses to lamp posts would have to he dis continued. City Treasurer Hermann reported that City Marshal Huffman had col lected $H00 in licenses. This sum, Hermann said, was twice as much as ever before collected by any officer during a corresponding length of time. Marshal Huffman was given n round of applause for his good work, which Is in keeping with the excellent services he has rendered the city in every way since he donned the star. The duties of the Roseburg mnr- The warrant was for $1000. After the city engaged in a lawsuit, with property owners because the sewer was defective the fund to neet the assessments for the work grew to $717.70 and then stopped. Mean while, the warrant has piled up In terest totalling $311.66. Submitting an Informal report on the paving assessments, Treasurer Hermann stated that there would be a surplus of $1000 in the Douglas street fund after all assessments are paid In. For the paving on Wash ington, Sheridan and Cass streets there are deficits totalling $77.61, for which amount the treasurer was Instructed to draw a warrant on the general fund of the city. o 13. T. Mr. Woodruff resided at Cleveland all of his life on the old' family place, engaging In farming and fruit growing. He was a member of Oak Camp No. 125, Woodmen of the World, of Roseburg, and a communi cant of the Church of Christ, Scien tist. Surviving Mr. Woodruff are his wife, one son, Alfred, and two daughters, Mrs. John Krohn and Miss Lois Woodruff. Mrs. Krohn, who lives at Portland, arrived here with her husband two days ago. The other daughter and the son live at Cleveland. Mr. Woodruff also leaves two brothers. Robert Wood ruft, of this city, and George Wood ruff, of Marshfleld, Coos county.
