Whereas, there is a large demand
for a new Building and Loan Asso
ciation In Roseburg, Oregon,
And whereas this Association is
perpetual and perhaps in a year or
lifteen months from now the first
series of its stock will mature,
And. whereas, to Incorporate a
new Building and Loan Association
it would cost at least $125,
'Therefore, be it resolved that this
Association hereby directs Its direc
tors to issue a second series or stock,
the same to be composed of 500
shares at $1.00 per share in accord
ance with the bylaws of this Asso
ciation and the attorney of this As
sociation be and is hereby authorized
to prepare all the necessary papers
and that when the stock Is fully
subscribed or two-thirds thereof

The greater portion of the kurden
of conserving the natural resources
of the country were laid by Secre

deposits of minerals nnd nre con-
tnined in the soils and streams. For ;

for tile most part the states are
sovereign within their own spheres

a greater obligation rests upon the
sTate than upon the national Gov
ernment to inaugurate laws to pre

ural resources."

Geoi-A-e Watkins, a well-known
MarsTifleld lawyer, has secured a
judgment for $5000 nguinst Chas.
Sneddon, also a well-known pioneer
con miner of Marshflfld, for slander.
The Judgment was rendered by
Judge J. S. Coke ot the district
court.
Suit wns begun on the grounds
that Mr. Sneddon had made state
ments derogatory to Mr. Watklna.
One of the statements which ho Is
alleged to have made was "He (Wat
kins) buncoed my wire (Mrs. Sned
don) out of J. "ill." It seems that Mr.
Watkins had formerly been engaged
by Mr. Sneddon as his attorney and
owing to some hitch, he thoa se
cured another lawyer. .
